What is a trivet?
A trivet is typically used to protect your table or countertop from a hot pan or other hot serving ware. It can provide protection for any vulnerable surface and it can also make a beautiful a centerpiece for your table. Felt trivets provide a quiet alternative to a hard surface—a buffer to noise, heat, and wear. It can also simply be a beautiful object to enjoy in your home.
How do I treat a stain on wool felt?
Try to get started with the spot cleaning process as soon as possible.
First use a clean towel to blot up any excess liquid spillage. Next, apply a small amount of cold water to wet area around stain. Apply a couple drops of liquid soap onto the stain. I like to use Dawn soap but Woolite works well too. This technique is preferable to immersing your felt item in water which loosens the fibers and the dye can possibly run. Be careful to not place wet felt on anything that might absorb color. Avoid using a rubbing motion if possible. Instead use your fingers to press the soap into the fabric until clean.
If the stain is stubborn, add another drop or two of soap and repeat process. Do not use aggressive scrubbing motions—these will damage the material.
If the stain is still visible, try using a solution of one part white vinegar and two parts cool water. Use the same dabbing technique. After you are satisfied, gently rinse area with cool water to remove soap. Blot with clean, dry, absorbent towel to remove excess water. If stain is still visible you can try repeating the above steps, being careful not to damage the felt. Felt is very durable but can be damaged with aggressive actions. Reshape it if necessary and allow the item to air dry in well ventilated space, away from direct sunlight, which can fade or damage felt.
