Hello! I’m Mark Calderon. I am a Seattle-based sculptor with work in many private and museum collections. Over the years I’ve used an extensive variety of materials in my work. In a recent show I used plaster, metal, mica, and industrial felt. I was captivated by the richness and warmth of felt—and I loved how the lush, white wool captured the vivid colors I chose. After my show I used the felt remnants to make some initial designs for trivets and gave them away as gifts to friends and family. This sparked the inspiration to design and produce this product for the home—a first for me. I am very pleased now to share them with you.
